A total of nearly 59,000 SOTKAnet searches were carried out between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2008. With the expansion of data content, the amount of data included in a search has increased as well. One search included an average of 42 indicators, 23 geographical areas and 4 years. Further growth is expected during 2009 with the introduction of a new user interface and new search features.
The most frequent geographical areas in these searches were the whole country, the municipalities in the greater Helsinki area and other large municipalities. SOTKAnet seems to be used quite evenly throughout the week, Wednesday being the busiest day. The statistics also show that there are users even during the weekend.
The most frequently searched data concerned alcohol sales data provided by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) as well as data provided by THL on children placed outside the home as a proportion of the total child population. The most frequently searched indicators include a considerable amount of data on substance use as well as Statistics Finland's population data.
