The use of SOTKAnet has been monitored throughout the two years of its existence. Between 14 March 2006 and 14 March 2007, a total of 43 168 searches were conducted, which is 4403 searches up on the first year of operation. Further growth is expected during 2007 with the coming expansion of the data content.
No major changes have occurred in the search profiles in terms of indicators included in the search, number of indicators per search, geographical areas and the days with the highest frequency of use. One search included an average of 14 indicators, 20 geographical areas and 4 years. The most frequent geographical areas in these searches were the whole country and the municipalities in the greater Helsinki area. An analysis by weekday shows that most searches take place during the first days of the week (Monday and Tuesday being the busiest days, each accounting for 20% of all searches). However, there have been users during the weekend as well.
As previously, the most frequently searched data concerned alcohol use and smoking among schoolchildren (School Health Promotion Study), as well as children placed outside the home as a proportion of the total child population (STAKES statistics). Compared with the previous use statistics, Statistics Finlands population data were now among the frequently searched indicators, as well as alcohol sales data, provided by STAKES and the National Product Control Agency for Welfare and Health (STTV), and data on the proportion of over-65s entitled for special refunds on medicines for psychosis, provided by the National Social Insurance Institution.
