Data content

The indicator gives the number of patients aged 24-64 who have received care in hospital and health-centre inpatient wards with the primary diagnosis of alcohol, drug, medicine or surrogates during year per thousand persons of the same age. The population data refer to year-end data.

Interpretation

The number of those aged 24-64 who have received hospital care in proportion to the age group helps describe the level and severity of morbidity caused by alcohol and drug use. However, it should be noted that the level of hospital care also depends on the resources available (e.g. the extent to which alcohol- and drug-related hospital care/outpatient care is available in the area) and the treatment practices in use.

Restrictions

Individual level data in the Care Register for Social Welfare and Health Care are confidential. For the sake of privacy protection, no municipality level data with less than five cases are published.
